   im a *ahem* semi-emo (semo) person so i might be slighly incorrect.
   emo….is like…death and stuff…and sounds kind of depressing (in a cool way)
   punk….is like….uh….evanescence sorta (but that also falls into the category of “christian emo”)well its light(er) and more guitar oriented talks more in the song (diff songs depending on band type)

   These days, the terms are used almost interchangeably. That’s not the correct usage, however.

   Emo refers to a genre of music that developed in Washington D.C. out of hardcore punk. It was more melodic, and the lyrics were more personal. Pop-punk, meanwhile, is just punk rock with heavy pop influences. Much original punk, like the Ramones, and many other New York punk bands are pop-punk. The genre gained new life in the ’90s, with Green Day, and later Blink-182.

   So bands like Fall Out Boy are pop-punk, but considering they have no relation to hardcore punk, it’s hard to call them emo. Some actual emo bands include Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate and Cap’n Jazz.

   emo’s are kids that need to learn that dyed black straightened hair and eyeliner are not a good look.

   pop punk is just a more pop influenced version of punk – the songs are catchier and the fans don’t feel the need to turn into droids that all look the same.

   emo is a suburbanized form of pop punk and goth conbined, pop punk is a suburbanized form of punk.
