    In very basic, stereotypical terms there are a couple differences. Emos today are seen as people who wear dark clothes, typically very tight pants, and lots of eyeliner. They usually tend to act depressed and listen to somewhat whiny music, and there is a stereotype that some of them self-mutilate.

    Typical emo look:

    Scene kids, on the other hand, tend to look like emos only wearing brighter clothes/makeup and acting very upbeat and quirky. Both usually have dyed hair and listen to similar bands.
