   I don’t understand many things about your rant.

   Why do you use past tense (sang) when referring to blues singers? Are you aware that blues is still a thriving musical genre?

   I don’t understand why you feel the need to place the word sing in quotes, as though implying emo vocalists don’t sing. Quite obviously, they do; you’d know this if you’ve ever listened to real emo music (which, on the basis of this question alone, I doubt you have); even screamo vocalists sing in addition to screaming. Understandably, you may not like the quality of their singing, but it’s singing nonetheless. Something doesn’t have to be good in order to be.

   It looks like you’re going entirely on stereotypes. Somebody who has already made up their mind that they are not going to like a style of music before hearing it and doesn’t know anything about it should not be taken seriously as a critic of that genre under any circumstances.

   I would be willing to bet you cannot reference a single emo song that deals with a 2-week breakup or “not getting the nicest phone”. If you can do so, I’ll shut up and delete my answer.

   Most emo singers are suburban fuckin pansies who think the world is out to get them because little things in life that don’t fuckin matter at all go wrong for them (i.e.- breaking up from a short term relationship tht prolly didn’t mean shit anyway, not getting concert tickets, etc.) and they try to express “the darkness” that they think they feel, when in fact it doesn’t exist. Thus, the music is tuned low and they fuck up their voices, when really blues musicians have real pain that they express the real way, with music that’s still bearable to listen to. Dem Blues got it right.

   Blues actually has a soul, there’s something there that’s real and meaningful. Blues is a way of beautifully expressing yourself.

   Emo music is just another mess this generation will have to clean up, there’s no heart and feeling there, just a way of getting all the wrong attention.
